EARLY CHILDHOOD
DEGREE PROGRAMS

GCCC Offers Degrees & Programs for Careers in Early Childhood Education

We offer the Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC), in replacement of the Child Development Associate Certificate.   In addition, we offer an Early Childhood Education Associate's Degree to help move you toward future career opportunities.  Scroll down to view the degree and certificate plans for these programs.

Early Childhood Education & Care is Projected to be a Growing Career Opportunity!

In 2003 the state of Florida enacted legislation calling for the creation of a voluntary, free pre-kindergarten education program for 4-year old children.  The VPK bill requires pre-kindergarten providers to employ at least one "credentialed" instructor.   GCCC offers two programs for educators in this field and students interested in careers in Early Childhood.  These programs can lead to careers as an educator in an early childhood care center, pre-kindergarten teacher, or as a director of early childhood education and care center.

Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC)
This credential is designed to replace the Child Development Associate (CDA-CT) [see below].  Requirements are roughly the same although greater oversight and rigor associated with the FCCPC will ensure further refinement in training and skills for child care providers.  The state mandates that child care facilities have a requisite number of FCCPC or CDA-CT credentialed staff on site.  Schools that offer voluntary pre-kindergarten programs also require similarly credentialed staff.  This certificate can be earned by students who can document 480 hours of direct supervision of children, eighty (80) hours of which must be completed during the period of enrollment in the FCCPC program and successful completion of program coursework and all course requirements, including onsite observations and a professional resource manual.  This is a "certificate program" designed for individuals currently placed in Early Childhood Education & Care Centers within the service area of Gulf Coast Community College (Bay, Gulf, and Franklin counties in the Panhandle of Florida).
