PRE-ELEMENTARY TEACHER  EDUCATION (ELTCH-AA)

PRIMARY ADVISERS: (all phone numbers begin with 850-769-1551)
John Phillips (ext. 2827), Jennifer Hamilton (ext. 5850), Peggy Pelt (ext. 2837), Don Reese (ext. 3826)

PROGRAM GOAL:  The purpose of this program is to prepare students for a career in teaching kindergarten through grade six.  The four year degree will lead to Florida certification for grades K-6.  Elementary education is a limited access program at most Florida universities.  For example, Florida State University requires a 2.5 GPA in the A.A. degree.  Students are encouraged to be familiar with the admissions requirements at the university they plan to attend.  Students must successfully complete the CLAST exam rather than an alternative demonstration of competency.

All pre-education majors should be aware that State of Florida teacher certification requires a thorough background check by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
